Laura Beam

Pre-Licensed Counselor | Master’s Student, Clinical Mental Health Counseling

When we work together, you’ll meet a human first— someone who understands both the weight of fear, loss, and uncertainty, and also the fullness of peace, connection, and joy. My role is to walk alongside you as you navigate both. I draw from an integrative approach that blends existential, cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, and somatic practices. With roots in integrative health and the creative arts, I’m passionate about helping people discover meaningful ways to process and express themselves as a pathway to healing and self-discovery. I am in the final year of my CACREP-accredited master’s program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at West Chester University. I also hold certifications in Integrative Health Counseling and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction.

Change can happen at any time, and I believe that each client has the ability to create that change. I see counseling as a team effort to create and reach therapeutic goals for every client. With a variety of coursework and relevant life experiences, my goal is to help each client feel accepted, heard, and comfortable. I have spent the last five years at Rosemont College gaining insight and knowledge that can help create an environment that inspires and motivate clients to reach their therapeutic goals. Using a person-centered, holistic approach helps clients create a connection between themselves, their environment, and their mental wellbeing. I graduated from Rosemont College with my Bachelors in Psychology in May of 2022, and I am currently working toward a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling – pre-licensed.

Alyssa Carbo, M.A.

Pre-Licensed Counselor

My therapeutic process is to learn how your belief systems, attachment style, and wounds have developed from your childhood experiences and been shaped over the years by different environments and relationships. We will trace out current and past events, thoughts, emotions, habits, and interactional patterns present in your life. To enable healing and change, I will encourage positive health habits (psychological, physical, nutritional, and spiritual) as we journey together. My passion is discovering who you are on a deeper level and the motivators that drive you to become your ideal self in order to design and achieve the life that fulfills you and build relationships that will sustain you. I believe that we were created for connection and living a purpose-driven life. It is my goal to walk alongside my clients, providing security as we move at a steady pace. I earned my B.A. in Applied Psychology at Penn State University and M.A. in Clinical Counseling with a certification in Applied Behavior Analysis at Eastern University.

Pre-Licensed Counselor

Change can only occur in a strong, secure therapeutic alliance, and it is my goal to create an atmosphere that aids in developing a successful therapeutic relationship. I believe clients are the experts of their own lives, and it is my role to help uncover patterns, explore new perspectives and provide tools for growth. My approach is to explore past experiences through uncovering the unconscious mind, coping with present struggles and challenges, as well as planning and finding purpose in the future. I work from a holistic and trauma informed perspective to give you the most appropriate care. Not only will we use therapeutic tools to help overcome difficulties, but we will explore lifestyle changes that may affect overall mental and physical health. I have experience working with clients with chronic pain and sleep disturbances. I have special training in dream interpretation as well. I work with individuals, couples, families and groups to provide therapy. My specialty and passion is treating children and adolescents. It is important to contextualize children and adolescents as part of their larger systems such as school, friendships, family and community. I work closely with caregivers in order to continue progress made in sessions in the home, as well as collaborate with schools or other resources. I also have extensive experience working with children with Autism, anxiety and trauma, as well as children experiencing family separation, loss, adoption or bullying. I look forward to starting your counseling journey with you! It is my goal for you to achieve a healthy and purposeful mindset.

Carolena Dunlap, M.A., L.P.C.

Owner and Licensed Professional Counselor

Mindset Counseling Center is a product of my passion and purpose to bring individualized therapy and support to individuals, couples, and families. Our goal is to provide therapy that offers corrective experiences that positively impact the view of self and others and shape stable, lasting change. It is to offer transformative moments where vulnerability is encountered with balance. We work to enable clients to move into the openness, responsiveness, and full engagement that characterizes secure attachment with others. We strive to enable clients to shape a coherent sense that can deal with existential life issues and become the best version of themselves. I am trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy for individuals and couples. EFT is a humanistic, based psychotherapy that works on understanding individual dysfunction and health as well as the nature of love, relationships, and family bonds. It works to use change strategies and interventions that are specific. This method has been validated with over 30 years of empirical research. I currently work on a committee providing education and support for the EFT model of therapy. I have collaborated with other therapists for several marriage weekend retreats as well as Christian faith-based counseling services. My area of focus extends to those within the LGBTQ community. I provide services for teens at risk of being removed from home and or school due to escalations of physical violence, verbal aggression, truancy, court or child youth services involvement, and IEP support. I am able to communicate with schools to assist those in need of transitional counseling and working between the home and school environments. Our method is to not simply focus on the mind, but also the body as a whole. As a former Nutrition Educator for Einstein Hospital, I believe, in order to heal the mind, you need to also focus on what you are putting in your body. That is why, at Mindset Counseling Center, we integrate nutrition and wellness checks into our sessions, to truly heal from the inside out. I view each person as unique and made up of many different aspects, So I work to look at people in a holistic view. This includes their cognitive, emotional, physical, and spiritual selves. I use positive, strengths-focused tools to help you consider things in a new light. I am committed to taking the appropriate amount of time and effort needed for healing so that you can build sustainable change and feel confident to move forward. I look forward to working with you and hope you find comfort at Mindset Counseling Center. Together, we can all live a more fulfilling life.
